In 2014, before I started at Kaltura, I founded a robotic video production startup. Here is a 2016 Demo of our web controller showing cams in Miami, within 400 milliseconds of real-time, controlled in a browser from St. Louis, MO.
The benefit of Clone's automated video software was the ability to capture and replicate the precise work product of a six-man camera crew, for zero incremental dollars. And we were first to produce full motion, live broadcasts entirely online.
The problem with remote video production is always latency. At minimum, you have a 15-second delay from the time an event occurs, before you see it online in video. Meaning, by the time you make a shot selection or move a camera, the action had already taken place. We were first to solve this problem with near zero-latency remote video preview technology.
In addition, Today PTZ cams are used only for shot variety, not live on-air motion shots. VISCA protocol does not allow for synchronous PTZ motion control. We built algorithms to synchronize pan-tilt-zoom speeds across all three planes of motion. We came closest to mimicking the smooth motion of a manned camera operator on the market by far.
My former co-founder built live video apps for military systems.
